Dear Neighbor,
My name is Dick Ladd. I am a Republican candidate to be your representative on the County Council. I hope you will read on to learn about my candidacy and my commitment to our communities.
This year, Anne Arundel County faced a $99.5 million dollar deficit. To balance the budget, the County Council, in part, increased property taxes, furloughed County workers, and “borrowed” $50 million from other County entities (like Anne Arundel Community College).
In summary, because the Council made very few structural spending cuts, the next County Council will be faced with the same or greater $99.5 million deficit again, plus $50 million will need to be repaid to the County entities raided this year.
And it is even worse since the Council will need to allocate funding for the County retiree health plan ... a liability upward of a hundred million dollars.
According to County Auditor Teresa Sutherland, the "County government is unsustainable as currently structured."
I am very disappointed. Pushing off today’s fiscal problems to next year and dipping into one-time revenue pools is not fair nor is it fiscally prudent.
I am running for the County Council to restore fiscal prudence to County government. I have a strong finance background with considerable experience on large budgets.
I will work incredibly hard to restore fiscal integrity to the County budget ...without raising your taxes.
